GOAL: To describe the coordinated changes in the components of the female reproductive system throughout the menstrual cycle and identify the causes and effects of menopause.
4.4 Objective: To describe physiological changes associated with the menopause and post menopausal period.
4.4.1 Hormone Concentrations and Actions Before and After Menopause (Animation) Note:This uses the same animation as 4.1.4 Actions and Concentrations of Major Ovarian Secretions -How do ovarian follicular development and ovarian hormone production change at the time of menopause? -How do plasma gonadotropin and inhibin levels change at menopause? -What is the average age of menopause? -How does the menstrual cycle change in the years preceding menopause? -What physiological changes occur at menopause? -What are the hot flushes? -Can exogenous estradiol or progesterone suppress GnRH, FSH and LH secretion in the postmenopausal female?
