Description: 6.1.1 Gamete Transport, Fertilization and Implantation (Animation) -How is the passage of spermatozoa from the cervix to the fallopian tubes controlled? -What is the sequence of cellular events following contact between spermatozoon and oocyte? -What is the sequence of cellular events leading to implantation of the blastocyst in the uterine endometrium? GOAL: To describe the processes of gamete transport, fertilization, blastocyst implantation, formation and function of the placenta, regulation of maternal and fetal metabolism during gestation, parturition and lactation. 6.1 Objective: To explain how spermatozoa and oocytes are delivered to the site of fertilization, how fertilization occurs and how the fertilized zygote implants in the uterine wall.
