| Title: | Cincinnati Bell Equipment Building |
| Author: | MacKaron, Erissa, Photographer |
| Description: | This combination of buildings located at Elm, Seventh and Plum Streets presents a somewhat awkward joining. Harry Hake, Sr. of Hake and Huck designed the earliest building, an Art Deco tour de force. The 1930-1931 building stands twelve stories tall and its facade is faced with limestone and marble. Oscar Bach designed the highly wrought metal accents and lamps for the building. Relief carving in the facade depicts stylized human forms and contemporary telephone equipment. The newer building is constructed in a combination of the International Style and Brutalism. Built in 1974, this building was designed by Harry Hake, Jr. The building stands like a monolith with windows on only one side and serves as an antithesis of the opulence of its Art Deco companion. |
