Description
This copy contains engraved plates that illustrate the alphabet with sign language. The plates are printed in
black ink. One plate contains the signed alphabet illustrated with one‐handed gestures. On the adjacent
page, the signed alphabet gestures are illustrated with two hands. Thomas Arrowsmith, who engraved the plates was born deaf and is the brother of the author. Thomas Arrowsmith is a well known portraitist and miniature painter whose work can be found throughout England. The text is paginated along the top outer corner. There are two pages printed as 126. Page 216's front was arranged out of order and is misprinted as "126".
