Abstract
Description
This is a small commercially produced autograph album from the late 19th century. It contains handwritten notes to Horace E. McClelland including one from Mr. Alfred Holbrook who founded the teacher’s college, National Normal University in 1855. The university was originally located in Lebanon, OH until it closed in 1917. There is a typewritten foreword pasted into the verso of the front sheet adjacent to the cover page that is signed by Theodore Ashmead Langstroth. The covers are a smooth leather with cushioned boards. The endsheets are a thick moiré textured white paper that is hinged along the gutter with red cloth. The textblock consists of a light beige wove paper, folded into gatherings that are sewn on recessed cords. The texblock is signed throughout accompanied by ink drawings. The textblock spine is lined overall and contains stuck‐on endbands.
