Abstract
Description
This is a dark brown diced half leather sheep skin binding, decorated with blind and gold tooling (possibly stamp embossed?). The boards contain triple blind lines making up square panels with gold dots stamped at the intersections of the blind tooling. The boards are extremely thick, composed of layers of book board that are edge beveled on the inside of the boards at the head, tail and fore edge. The boards are covered with a brown wood veneer. There are five false raised bands along the leather spine. The made endsheets are marbled with red cloth hinges. The leather is suffering from red rot. The joints are broken, especially along the upper board. As a result, the spine leather is fragmented and torn along false raised bands and endcaps but appears mostly present. It is delaminating from the boards at the corners, particularly along the back cover where the leather is in danger of becoming lost.
