Abstract

Description

Located in Cincinnati's beautiful Eden Park the Playhouse in the Park consists of several primary building projects. The Marx Theatre was constructed in 1968 after the designs from the firm Hardy, Holzman, Pfeifer. In 1980 the 1874 Thompson Shelterhouse was remodeled and another building, the Marx Plaza, was constructed to join the two. The overall effect of the Playhouse is clean, casual and airy. The new buildings and renovations portray a Minimalist style: poured concrete floors, open ductwork, glass commons. The purpose is to involve the audience with the play and not the decor.
