Cincinnati [MAP] : Preservation Lab Treatment Report

This is a map that is a fragment of a larger page, as evidenced by margins of the paper that only contain a partial plate mark. It appears the map was cut out of a larger page. To preserve the map long term, the map was surface cleaned overall with an Absorbene smoke sponge and vinyl erasers to remove accumulated dirt. It was housed in a custom window mat with a back mat that was constructed out of Rising Museum mat board and hinged with Tyvek tape. The original map was mounted loosely within the mat in a polyester sleeve secured with photo corners. A larger surrogate map was created for handling, printed on 8 x 12 inch archival MOAB photomount paper on a P7000 Epson printer. It was stored in a polyester sleeve. A label identifying the surrogate was adhered to the verso of the print with Jade 403 PVA. The matted original and surrogate were housed in an archival blue b‐flute board corrugated clamshell.
