A Compleat Journal of the Votes, Speeches and Debates, Both of the House of Lords and House of Commons Throughout the Whole Reign of Queen Elizabeth, of Glorious Memory : Preservation Lab Treatment Report

This is a tightback half (?) leather binding that arrived wrapped in bubble wrap tied with string. This is an usual half leather binding because it is actually bound in full leather, in the style of a half leather binding. The spine and corners are covered in a light brown leather while the boards are covered in a dark brown leather. The boards are decorated overall in a blind tooled paneling. The leather is heavily deteriorated and missing, suffering from severe red rot and water damage, so it’s possible that the half leather was added as a repair at one point in time – or it’s possible that the binder was using whatever leather scraps they had on hand to cover the large book. The binding was originally sewn on six single cords, and there appears to be discoloration on the textblock edges indicating there may have originally been sewn on endbands as well.
