Abstract

Description

This item is an 18th century physics text printed in Latin. It has been rebound in a non-contemporary brown leather half binding with marbled paper covering the boards. The spine features four false raised bands, as well as a maroon leather title label stamped in gold. A call number label has been adhered to the spine in the bottom panel. The stuck-on endbands are a thick, twisted brown cord. The text block is untrimmed and undecorated and is comprised of multiple signatures sewn through the fold and against the grain. The primary support is a cream colored, medium thickness laid paper that features printed text in black ink as well as several iron gall ink inscriptions in the margins throughout the text block. The original front end sheets feature a title page with black and red printed text as well as an additional iron gall ink inscription in the margin. Opposite the title page is a plate featuring an etching printed in black ink. The pastedowns and flyleaves are a non-contemporary dark beige, thick, textured woven paper that has been tipped onto the original end sheets.
