dc.description | The 8-cent Pharmacy commemorative stamp was first placed on sale at Cincinnati, Ohio, on November 10, 1972, in conjunction with the 120th anniversary of the American Pharmaceutical Association. The stamp honors American druggists. Designed by Ken Davis, the stamp depicts widely recognized pharmaceutical symbols such as bowl of hygeia, a mortar and pestle, and nineteenth century medicine bottles. 135 million stamps were initially printed in sheets of fifty. The stamp was lithographed and engraved (Giori). Reference: Postal Bulletin (October 5, 1972). This collection was donated to the Winkler Center by David Barkelow. | en_US |
